My dad sent this to me this morning, we saw totality for the 2017 one and now my partner and I are in Cincinnati to head into the path tomorrow to see it

I genuinely can’t emphasize how amazing it was to see. It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.

I was living in one of the prime spots for the 2017 one, full totality zone or whatever you call it. I woke up before it was about to happen, accidentally fell asleep for ten minutes, exactly enough time to miss the entire thing 😠 everyone was telling me how incredible it was, I still can't get over it. All I had to do was walk out my door and I could see it perfectly, clear sky, warm, perfect conditions.

SO everyone go check it out if you have the chance! Don't be like me -_-

I saw totality in 2017 as well and it was indeed incredible. another protip - there is no possible way you will get a reasonable photograph so just put your phone down. some things can't be recorded, just experience it

Looks like I'll be under totality along with some crazy thick clouds

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I cannot emphasize this enough, if you can try to drive somewhere with clear skies, do it. You’re so close and it won’t happen again here for a loooong time.

[–] GVAGUY3@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Unfortunately every person in the area and tourist is gonna try this

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

Yep. There’ll be a lot of people and a lot of traffic. You should still be able to make it work.

[–] nat_turner_overdrive@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago (1 children)

in texas but I gotta work tomorrow for dipshit money kitty-birthday-sad

[–] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 6 months ago

Walk out to watch it. You may be able to mitigate reprisal from MGMT by recruiting others including MGMT.

Otherwise...can you take a break during that time? It's worth seeing.

Im hyped, my partner lives just outside totality so we’re going to drive the 60 miles or so and hopefully find a good spot. I’ve been anxious about clouds all week.

[–] Ocommie63@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 6 months ago

My advice would be to leave as early as you can, traffic will NOT be fun

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Same, my partner and I are in Cincinnati tonight which is just outside of the path, and the big question is where will the clouds be.

With clouds covering the sun and moon, all there was for me to see was the show on the ground, which was so intense. It felt like being in Subspace from SMB 2. You're in the world in the same shape as usual, but it's a lot darker than it was literally seconds ago. I couldn't get over it being not just an effect but how reality really was for those minutes and just walked around looking at things both near and far. I think if I were a kid, I would have been running around. I didn't see anyone else, young or old, get the spontaneous wanders.

Fucking site was down and I ended up being productive today. Damn you commies!!!

[–] pisstoria@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

Overcast for the entire day except the totality and like half of the eclipse before and after. Very nice.

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

it's gonna rain all day here :cri:

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

If possible, try to drive somewhere clear, it’s so worth it

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

not possible for me unfortunately :cri:

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

THIS EMPIRE, TOO, WILL BE ECLIPSED

[–] GVAGUY3@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Gonna be cloudy for me in totality.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

Try your best to get to somewhere clear, you really don’t want to miss it

[–] drinkinglakewater@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Aw shoot I'm gonna be just out of totality, is it cool to see at like 98-99% ?

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

The graph is accurate. Seeing the corona is a near spiritual experience. It’s the most I’ve ever been aware of floating through space, if that makes sense

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

If you possibly can, try to travel to the next town over to get the 100%. That graph means what it says, totality is so unbelievably cool and completely different from anything else

[–] red_stapler@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

You’ll get the neat shadows and stuff but miss out on the really cool nighttime part.

[–] ped_xing@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

I am in Ithaca, hopping on a 7:30 bus tomorrow morning to sit around and wait for it for hours. I brought a weed vape, Das Kapital, water and snacks. Let's do this.

I spent this eclipse doing the same thing I did during the last eclipse: making someone else rich

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

[–] Parsani@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

Make a pinhole camera. Just need a box, tin foil with a tiny pinhole, and tape

[–] Tiocfaidhcaisarla@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

Libraries might have them

[–] Des@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

once we have hyper accurate weather modeling early tom i'll decide if im going to take a little drive to totality or not

if it looks like poop ill just enjoy my partial

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Very cool eclipse. I was in the 99% zone and it got dark enough to trigger nighttime lights in the houses around me.

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

It was so cool

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

It ruled so much. I drove the entire day, and then set up folding chairs on the side of the road. I did the same for the 2017 eclipse, but got screwed by cloud cover. Not this time, the weather held clear!

[–] PaX@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

Sad I can't make it to see totality :(

[–] blashork@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

The city I'm in has so many different events for it I don't know which one to attend. There's going to be a bunch of parks hosting stuff, the top of the mountain would be a great view, and all the universities are going to be doing events too.
