im so torn as i absolutely hate all of the players involved. i guess what it comes down to is... the swashbuckler inside me laughs in your general direction

haahha ive been runnin BBs's since the early 90s, and currently running a fully federating fediverse implementation of mbin. im not scared of running social media stuff. doesnt mean i cant ignore garbage tech like any VR.

and i only buy retail displays that dont include an onboard OS. they cost more, but theyre always worth it.

cars? my 1980 toyota celica aint goin nowhere. i can rebuild the 20r in my sleep.

i hate some of the new tech, but im also not afraid to completely work around it. you do you though

yeah, im a full stack guy and im old and it sucks constantly having to learn for the job, but ya know it hasnt really changed all that much in the last 30 years. gen AI doesnt exist so its 'revolution' certainly isnt going to be pronounced before im retired.

im certainly not afraid of some predictive generation as its nothing knew, its just [much] better than it was.

you led with speaking with animals and virtual reality but that boiled down pretty quick didnt it?

ha, none of that will exist in your lifetime. i think youll be ok. is it that hard to just ignore the stuff youre not interested in?

and behold all of the terrible consequences!

allow lists run by individual instances..not a gatekeeping board of a single entity.

my points stand. if you want to join a true federating twitter clone youre not using the atprotocol.

theres a niche group of tech enthusiasts who like this old shit.

my son recently jumped into 35mm film photography with the goal of pushing them into projection slides

people have crazy hobbies.

bluesky is run by a single org, and you have to beg them to let their router include your 'independent' instance. it is a closed garden.

it is like federating with facebook (not threads) by begging facebook to include your server and content into their garden.

thats not open federation. even after they let you in, they could take their ball home and lock it down at any moment.

guy couldnt sit through a one hour interview, theres no way he spends more than 5 minutes in the back of that mcdonalds. and as far as doing anything? no way. they are going to demo all the equipment while he pretends hes helping.

its like taking your toddler to work.

what an amazing dramedy.

especially the first several seasons. so many wonderful characters, it really has something for everyone.

buttery voiced john corbetts seamless radio-narration and its philosophical bent fits right in with a town full of quirky personalities. the indigenous population playing a wonderful straight-man to the town.

it even holds up well. the remoteness denotes a lack of tech that isnt too far out of place today.

this is one of those shows where you just want to be a part of it.

it could also never be replicated/rebooted successfully... lighting striking twice and all that.

anyone else have such fond memories of northern exposure? im about to start my per-decade rewatch.

its so ubiquitous it feels like it was a requirement..

I really liked 'the cosby show'. it was a significant change in the demonstration of a successful, minority family. its funny. it also holds up well; the writing did not date itself too much to the era.

but, ya know... Cosby. can you separate the artist from the art? a part of me feels like i should still be able to enjoy the show even though he is a terrible person.

thoughts?
