The interview was interesting and glad candidates are willing to go into these hostile territories even if the conversation falls on deaf ears. For me, I was never undecided. I am voting Democrat.

What I want to know: will a Kamala-Walz adminstration have a unified house and senate to push this country forward (getting Roe v Wade codified to start)? All of this focus/media attention on the presidential elections but we need to flip seats.

What’s the temperature across the country right now?

Seems pp rolled this “feature” out to USA only due to our lax regulations on privacy. Another user (in Canada) pointed out the option was not seen in Profile & Data

I updated title, thanks

Page mentions “Notice of Amendment(s) to the United States PayPal Agreement(s)”. So it’s likely US only (for now).

If you don’t see the “Data and Privacy” option to opt out on their website or app. Then it’s likely they are not sharing your data, yet.

US has been playing catch up for decades. FedNow was implemented in 2023 to allow instant P2P payments between banks thereby eliminating the need for PayPal, Cash App, Venmo, et al.

It will take some time before we see banks make this fully available to everyone and subsequently merchants using it.

Amendments to the PayPal Privacy Statement Effective November 27, 2024:

We are updating our Privacy Statement to explain how, starting early Summer 2025, we will share information to help improve your shopping experience and make it more personalized for you. The key update to the Privacy Statement explains how we will share information with merchants to personalize your shopping experience and recommend our services to you. Personal information we disclose includes, for example, products, preferences, sizes, and styles we think you’ll like. Information gathered about you after the effective date of our updated Privacy Statement, November 27, 2024, will be shared with participating stores where you shop, unless you live in California, North Dakota, or Vermont. For PayPal customers in California, North Dakota, or Vermont, we’ll only share your information with those merchants if you tell us to do so. No matter where you live, you’ll always be able to exercise your right to opt out of this data sharing by updating your preference settings in your account under “Data and Privacy.”

edit: update title to reflect this is for PayPal USA users

Diversion tactic. Promote political ~~discourse~~ discord in US so Russia can continue their atrocities in Ukraine

What is everyone’s temperature about the situation here? I have never lived in a hurricane prone area like Florida.

If I was basing it completely on national coverage, I am getting the impression that any region in the path of the Milton will get flattened by sudden sea rise. Even the AP article paints a grim picture:

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A steady rain fell in the Tampa Bay area Wednesday morning as a mighty Hurricane Milton churned toward a potentially catastrophic collision with the west coast of Florida, where some residents insisted they would stay even after millions were ordered to evacuate. Stragglers face grim odds of surviving, officials said

However, looking into it more and trying to be less emotional. Florida’s emergency management system is issuing evacuation orders for many counties in Milton’s path. But some “inland” counties like Polk have no evacuation orders despite adjacent county, Hillsborough, having mandatory evacuation orders [1].

Then if you navigate to the county level (ie, Hillsborough). Only specific zones were issued mandatory evacuation. At this time, residents of Hillsborough county in zones “A” and “B” (and all mobile homes) given mandatory evacuation. People in other zones advised it was optional [2].

What did we observe with Helene? Were these local government evacuation orders completely wrong and devastated areas that previously had optional evacuation?

This is abhorrent. Fuck this Christian hellhole.

Some gun owners look for any reason to use their gun. Smh.

Send these idiots off to fight a war. They will have all the chances to use their gun. most will probably be better off used as sandbags

The state of SCOTUS is abhorrent. We truly are on the verge of a second Civil War. The terrorists have successfully infiltrated all levels of government. And they are not the terrorists featured on your local Fixed News affiliate. It’s your neighbors and often times rural areas.

Democrats won the battle (ie, reclaiming presidency) but have lost the war.

Too many assholes in this country think they are the American Sniper.

It was really close at UT. State police, city police, and national guard called in by spineless university president (Jay Hartzell).

Fuck Jay Hartzell. Hope he gets recalled. No golden parachute.

the reason this person has any relevancy (same with the other shit posters on that godforsaken platform), is because hate filled/controversial trash generates the most engagement.

Algos can’t tell the difference between “negative” or “positive” engagement. Only “post has been engaged 1M times, must serve post to more people in bucket/cluster 9. Also serve adult diaper ads, and “alpha juice” ads”

When Lemmy was making waves last year when Reddit pulled an “enshittification” of the platform. One of the first things I noticed was how terrible the experience was when trying to navigate to other Lemmy instances.

Hopefully this will help bridge the gap when it becomes generally available.

What’s the over/under on time to ban for BidenHQ (https://truthsocial.com/@BidenHQ)

Also, that fucking site is asking for a phone number to register. Fuck that.

Source: the false “front page of the internet”

Found this interesting. Looks like it’s in 🇺🇸. Surprised it has not been towed.

Heard of stories of abandoned vehicles in the Middle East (Dubai?), but with super cars.

Just Alabama things, I guess. Fuck that state.

👋 !cfb@lemmy.world — noticed activity here is low, especially while in season. Prior to my post today regarding UT vs Alabama game, last activity was ~6 days ago.

I would like to see this community flourish during the season like it does on the pretender “front page of the internet” site. I would be willing to invest time to automate creation of pre-, post-, and weekly discussion posts. But I don’t want to do that if the community is not active or is not wanted (ie, deemed as “spam”)

Lmk your thoughts/opinions/suggestions.

Texas is back?

It's been awhile folks, but found another one! This time on a show called "Gut Job".

Poor homeowners overpaid for some shit house in the 'burbs. Couldn't be bothered to pay for a proper TV mounting service 😂

HGTV Canada. (2023). Gut Job - Sara and Paul (Season 2, Episode 13) [Video]. Hulu. https://www.hulu.com/watch/7c2537f0-d68b-402f-b562-26f3107b58e8 (08’06")
