I never thought to see the day that a former News Limited CEO was installed as head of the ABC by Labor. Surely they'll regret this at the next election when the ABC becomes like another Fox News.

It's not as bad as it looks if you look into why he resigned from News

In December 2011, Williams was appointed CEO of News Limited (which became News Corp Australia in July 2013). He resigned in August 2013 amid reports that his management style had alienated many staff members and executives, including members of the Murdoch family

It’s disappointing.

Surely there is some leftist media professor they could put in that would really give Sky News something to cry about?

Fuck man... Do I have to tell my kids they can't watch Bluey anymore?

No. Bluey is bigger than the ABC, now.

Disney already distributes Bluey to most of the world and would snap up Australia/UK rights in a heartbeat if Ludo fell out with ABC.

That would be a tragedy though, and I actually expect the chairman of the ABC would be overruled if they put the Bluey deal in jeopardy somehow.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Anthony Albanese has announced former News Limited CEO Kim Williams as his endorsement to replace Ita Buttrose as the new ABC chair.

Ms Buttrose will step down at the end of her term in March.

Mr Williams has held several positions in Australian media and arts organisations.

The prime minister made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday morning where he was joined by Communications Minister Michelle Rowland.

The breadth of his experience is matched by its depth and his intellect, his energy, and his insatiable curiosity of all men that he's been able to devote himself to a great diversity of passions."

"Ms Buttrose is a giant of the media and business worlds," she said.
