Perfection. Utter perfection.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

I was just thinking about this meme last week, wondering how to contextualize it. No need to wonder so much now. Thank you.

[–] ech@lemm.ee 33 points 10 months ago (3 children)

A meme once told me that Ohio has the most NASA astronauts of any state. I wonder what they're trying so hard to get away from.

[–] bitwaba@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago

on April 15, 1970, during a slingshot maneuver around the moon to get the crippled Apollo 13 spacecraft back to Earth, Jim Lovell did what every person from Ohio dreams of: getting as far away as humanly possible.

[–] hglman@lemmy.ml 7 points 10 months ago

The most wright brothers too.

Man, I envy those with an aesthetic eye that can translate powerful messages like this with simple changes. Well done.

Ohio is basically Florida without beaches or Disneyworld.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

When the rivers catch fire do you really want a beach?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Technically there are beaches on the Lake Erie shore. Last time I checked, they were not on fire, but probably would have been improved by fire.

[–] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not technically. There are some very nice beaches on the lake. And while they're not currently burning... they probably SHOULD be on fire because they're some of the most absurdly expensive properties in NE Ohio. Just Google images of Bay Village.

For starters: Air Force Museum, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, several professional sports teams, gorgeous parks, the best amusement park in the US, and nearly 12 million people.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland browns, are we really calling them professionals?

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 9 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

The Reds and Cavs are breathing a sigh of relief that you forgot about them

and nearly 12 million people.

who wish they were somewhere else.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You know how many astronauts are from Ohio? There's such a drive to escape that state that some people feel they need to leave the planet entirely.

In all seriousness, I think that it's a great state to be from.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (3 children)

I imagine Ohio isn't really that bad. Mostly because I've never been there.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Completely by chance, I've lived half my life in various parts of Ohio.

It's not hell, but I like other places better overall. There are specific things and people that I miss, but most of those people also left.

It's the Midwest. It's where Americans are bred before they move to the West Coast.

Corn and hicks

[–] Kbin_space_program@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

Something driving people to strive to leave the planet entirely. Based on NASA astronaut states of origin.

[–] PRUSSIA_x86@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Lots of chill people, a few assholes, decent weather, and the Big Basket.
