Seoul will “respond with all measures available”.

Perhaps the law that forbids arms exports to warfighting countries could be re-examined? Wouldn't even need to toss the whole thing, a new law could probably be passed to create an exception.

I'm sure some of S Korea's gigantic reserves of 155mm would make a very significant difference.

"I am your king." "Well, I didn't vote for you." "You don't vote for kings." "Well, how'd you become king, then?"

From some brief googling around this seems like it might be a scam company. A year ago they were claiming they had their system producing 5 times the energy it took to run.

Since this article simply repeats the companies claims, it might be wise to wait for some sort of independent verification that they're not just lying through their teeth.

Lina Khan is a national treasure.

As the dev's flagship instance, there is only so much that can be done. There is also only so much that should be done, since they should have the right to run their own instance however they see fit. They did put the work in to create the service, after all.

I think the most reasonable solution around this is to simply push mbin a little harder. Since .ml will always garner a certain degree of attention as the dev's instance, simply pivoting more attention to a lemmy-related service may be the best option to make us more appealing to less politically-interested people overall.

Yep. The DoD prepared their first assessment of how climate change would impact force readiness decades ago. It's certainly reasonable they estimate whatever they contribute to the challenges as well.

Yep. There's not really enough content in a lot of single Instance communities, but when you sign up for all of them it gets to a reasonable degree of activity.

Very defensible. Doesn't look like it can receive supply from the sea though, and those cliffs don't look particularly hospitable to installing a dock somewhere. Also, freshwater supply?

Let's not forget the internet has an outsized proportion of kids on it. When you're a kid, conspiracy theories sound more fun and less dumb.

Bit different when Elon Musk does it, he should know better.

Yes, you would certainly want a fairly robust material that would weaken at a predictable rate. After thinking about it more, I'm now considering a re-usable system, made of some sort of rigid plastic, where there's a gap between the head and helmet maintained by interlocking teeth. Under a heavy load, the plastic would deform, collapsing the space. Then you could just pop it back out after. Much like a medicine bottle's child safety, the teeth would provide the bulk of their resistance in only one direction.

It's not too different from re-usable breaking boards that martial arts schools sometimes use. Just much smaller, and repeated in a sort of matrix formation.

It's definitely feasible, we possess the technology to make this happen. Might be expensive, I don't know. Might also be inferior to this design:

Something is worth it to reduce concussion rates, I do hope the NFL eventually takes this more seriously, though I know they don't actually give a shit about the players. Current helmets are an absolute joke, though, it should be embarrassing in these modern days. Kinetic energy can be absorbed/converted/dissipated in many different ways.

[–] Carrolade@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yeah, concussions suck.

The helmets are already pretty unwieldy due to current, largely ineffective methods of force reduction. This would replace those. Also, it would be engineered to give way at a certain amount of force, not just so easily that every lineman has theirs crumpling at every play, that would indicate very poor design.
