I thought, I was confused by "mushroom grips", but his crotch being labeled "Special Purpose" definitely beats it...

[–] Mozingo@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Lmao, I thought it was pointing at the seat, but no, it goes right past it lolol

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Pretty sure it's indicating the padded crossbar.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Nah, obviously it is pointing towards his genitals, there is no other way

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 2 points 5 days ago

I stand corrected.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

In the movie The Jerk, Steve Martin’s character writes a letter to his mother saying he learned what his “special purpose” was for after having sex for the first time. Presumably, that was the way she explained his penis to him. This must be a reference to that.

...it went drip drip drip

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 5 days ago

Special purpose.

Holy shit, that's old.

[–] SpecialPurpose@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Finally, some proper representation.

Well this is mildly epic

[–] batdad90@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

I love when vintage finds are still relevant today.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 8 points 6 days ago

Special Purpose is almost as rad as Mushroom grips.

[–] kelseybcool@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

That shifter is amazing.

Now is definitely the time to share one of my least useful bits of random knowledge, which is that (this IS related) Nicole Kidman was in a movie in the early 80s called BMX BANDITS.

I wonder who here is old enough to get the reference...

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (4 children)

You won't catch me riding that thing. Here's my bike, no brakes, no gears, no reflectors, no context..

“Fixed gears; steel frame; no brakes. The bike can not coast. The pedals never stop turning. Can’t stop. Don’t want to either.”

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

LOL, that's a fixie. I have a freewheel. My shoes are my brakes.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world -4 points 6 days ago

Ahh, the movie that solidified my hatred of cyclists.

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

no gears

I clearly see one gear at the hub there m8

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

No shiftable/selectable gears, single speed. You know what I meant LOL!

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So I guess you don't want to be awesome.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I don't need internet clout to tell me I'm awesome. Has anyone else done a footjam trick barefoot, no injuries?

[–] badbytes@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Pubes shirt?

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

what would 10 speed mean here? 2x5?

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago

Yep, 2x5 seems right. 3x3.33333... would be difficult to implement and 1x10 wasn't a thing back then at least with derailleur

[–] Supervisor194@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This looks like the late 80s (or maybe early 90s) and what looks like a freestyle BMX bike with the caption "how to be awesome" - but no mention of Haro or Diamondback? I call bullshit.

[–] n0clue@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Don't BMX bikes typically not have gears?

[–] Supervisor194@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Hell if I know. Were bikes with gears considered how to be awesome in the 80s or 90s?

[–] Nomecks@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

No gears, brakes in the middle of the rear triangle, low, sloped back seat and taller handlebars.

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Where i live they didn’t have gears, yet they had a gear shifter, just for the cool factor, I guess

[–] BilboBargains@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

How to be plagued by wedgies, judging by that seat angle.

[–] DarkSpectrum@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

If only a person's belongings were a true representation of their character.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Man, they're not kidding! That bike is awesome.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago
