Implying that this isn’t a great date night…?

[–] Norin@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yeah. I know this is supposed to make us all say “fuck, I’m old” and all, but this just sounds like a fantastic night.

Yeah, and I don't think you need to be in your 30s to enjoy DDR. That game is timeless.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

There's a bar near me that is crammed full of arcade machines from all the decades and it is crammed with people of all ages having a blast and so many young people on dates. Games like DDR are still insanely popular and there's line ups for Daytona USA even though it's older than plenty of the people playing it.

This scene was from An Extremely Goofy Movie, released on 2000.

But the point does stand...

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago

Damn, you know your Goofy Movies.

DDR Extreme 8th Mis wasn’t out then! Aaaaaaaaa

Point me in the direction of the 30-something women who want to nerd out for hours about the Sega Dreamcast before spending all night beating Space Channel 5.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Nerdy introverted women exist, but they're just hanging out at home playing games too.

[–] TheBest@midwest.social 15 points 1 month ago

the great paradox.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Solution: door-to-door gaming solicitation?

[–] BallsandBayonets@lemmings.world 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

As if anyone born after 1980 answers their front door.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fair. But if you hold up the Dreamcast, maybe they'll see it on a video feed or something and give you a shot.

Give Tim Walz a shout, he's down to Dreamcast

I'm not sure what's regrettable about this information.

In the next scene where the date takes place, they embrace their old school cool, knock it out of the park, and have a blast. It genuinely romanticizes being this old and made me look up to being this old when I watched as a kid.

All this meme is telling me is, "Congrats, you made it, now go find people in your cohort and live it up with them in ways that mean things to you, even if the kids think you're cringe," and that's wonderful.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

… I kinda feel like that would be a dope date

[–] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I would undoubtedly nerd out a little bit if I found a tamagochi in the wild.

[–] match@pawb.social 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

[–] GluWu@lemm.ee 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I was gonna tell the other poster I'd rather do Beat Saber but the addition of not even leaving the house is way better. Let's go!

[–] meliaesc@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

30 year old woman here. Imported a DDR pad from Poland this summer. Let's do this.

[–] match@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

well, going on a hetero date was the last thing i expected but I do love ddr....

[–] meliaesc@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

To be fair, my husband might approve more if we just hang out instead anyway...

[–] match@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

slowly hides bad dragon dildos and magic wand

[–] meliaesc@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

[–] match@pawb.social 3 points 1 month ago

[–] missingno@fedia.io 11 points 1 month ago

I would absolutely go on a date to play DDR.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 11 points 1 month ago

Arcade date is awesome.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What is that supposed to be?

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A conch shell on a rope (maybe a ludicrous necklace?)

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is that a 70’s thing?

A lava lamp is a 70s thing. A pet rock. Glam rock. Avocado-green colored plastic kitchenware.

I have no idea what “70’s memorabilia” this is supposed to be.

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 month ago

Your questions are reasonable, I'm just saying what it looks like.

[–] amansman@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Bellows for stoking a fire was my guess.

[–] cactus_head@programming.dev 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 month ago

Oh, I get it now. 😂

[–] 2pt_perversion@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

This one hurts.
