Indeed. Makes it more work to filter the handful of good or even great articles from the 99.99% that use this platform for its apparent ease of money grubbing.

Yeah, sites like Medium made me really apprentice the Kagi search engine feature that allows you to down rate website in search results.

is it worth it over Brave Search/DDG/Startpage?

I'd say so, it has some features I enjoy, eg. I can tell it I never want to see results from Instagram, Timblr, Rinterest etc. They also have a feature called lenses where you can tell it "I'm searching for Java, and my search results should be about programming (not coffee or the island)". DDG I always felt like its results were rather irrelevant in comparison, but I haven't looked at it in a while. Kagi results are on par with the major engines I'd say.
