I got a switch from a friend awhile ago and didn’t use it much but recently I put 100+ hours in Stardew Valley on that thing.

I play all types of games from racing to shooters, sims to casual. Lately I’m especially drawn to games like Stardew because I hate dealing with boys/men online. No pressure, no hate. Maybe I’m just getting old.

This amount actually seems low.

If the survey is reflective of real world percentages. Women are close to half of all people. White men are 31% of the US population. Assuming some of them aren’t straight men or have disabilities, thats a pretty large possibilities of options that someone can fling hate at.

To be clear, straight white men can also experience hate. I don’t want to discredit them. It just seems to me that most of the hate is directed at other identity groups, so I’m using it to make a point.

Volkswagen Jetta. I think it was a 2012. Aside from having an oil leak that was common in that model, the gear shift computer broke, and most annoying of all, on the inside would just sort of fall off for no reason. I mean, the vent direction control tabs. And the only way to replace them was to remove the entire dash. Stupid and cheap design. I’ll probably never buy another Volkswagen.

AdGuard does on iOS as well, as long as you’re using Safari. Doesn’t work on other browsers.

I think AdGuard subscribes to the same annoyances list.

Mutant Genes:

Red hair and brown eyes is unusual. Red hair is a recessive trait but brown eyes tend to be dominate. Hair color and eye color are one the same gene, MC1R. So if you have a dominate hair color you tend to have a dominate eye color, brown hair and brown eyes for example. People who have red hair and brown eyes have a mutated gene so the recessive red hair is attached to the dominate brown eyes.

The same concept goes the other way, like people with green eyes and brown hair.

Lots of people in my family have red hair/brown eyes because of this. It doesn’t skip around like it does in some families.

Sony, WB, and Universal logic:

The people at that address probably use water to make meth. Cut off their water so they can’t make meth.

My dentist had to break apart a wisdom tooth and remove it in pieces. They also had to drill and fill cavities in nearby teeth.

They gave me a shots in that area to numb. They did a bit of testing before doing to work to make sure I was sufficiently numb. It didn’t hurt much, but there was some pinching that didn’t feel awesome.

The worst part for me was the pushing, pulling, and vibration of the tools in your mouth. It doesn’t feel natural and it made my skin crawl. I didn’t like the sound either. I recommend earbuds.

Afterwards, I had no pain at all. They gave me hydrocodone to take but I honestly didn’t even need ibuprofen. That isn’t the experience of most people, I’m told. I’m very lucky.

Aside from the headphones, my best tip is to visit a dentist that you feel comfortable with. Tell them up front, that you’re feeling anxious and any worries you have. A good dentist will do their best to explain the process clearly and do what they can to ease the pain.

This is a pretty solid explanation.

To add some context, you used to be guaranteed a portion of profits in the company but that doesn’t happen now. Some stocks pay dividends but unless you own a lot of those, it won’t do you much good. Owning stocks now, does give you the right to participate in voting. Mark Zuckerberg owns voting control of Meta, meaning he can’t be removed from his position by shareholders because he owns enough votes (shares) that he can’t be overridden.

Another thing you hear people talk about in relation to stocks is capital gains tax. Taxes on stock depend on how long you owned the stock. Less than a year, you get charged a higher tax rate on selling because you’re flipping it for profit; short-term vs long-term gains. Those taxes is only applied to the profits of the sale.

Stocks are assets, however, and investors can borrow against it without selling in the same way you can get aa home equity loan against your house without selling your house. Since they aren’t actually selling the stock, they aren’t paying taxes on those profits.

Thats why some politicians, like Kamala Harris, have suggested a tax on unrealized gains (profits on stocks that haven’t been sold yet). It would be a way to close the loop hole of billionaires not paying their fair share. It sounds kind of shitty to pay taxes on assets you don’t have in hand until you realize how stocks are used to avoid some taxes.

And PocketCasts. Of all the things in this whole mess that surprised me what what Automaticc owned. I had no idea they owned some of my favorite things.

WP is so bad that I got hired to help a client set up their site. They had a GoDaddy prebuilt site and wanted to migrate to a GoDaddy WooCommerce page so they could add a loyalty program.

WooCommerce is awful. It was making its own product variants, assigned changes that no one asked for to users that were asleep during the time, and took days for her to load 400 products in their database with the import feature.

It was like it was intentionally bad to push people who don’t know any better into buying an $80 plugin.

I agree! And, I know government was bailing these people out for a long time, which just makes them double down. I’m not worried about those people. I’m worried about the ones that don’t want to be there and can’t afford to relocate, or for some and even worse, evacuate.

Hello! Don’t know if this is the right community to post this question, but maybe you can help.

I want to learn about cars and engines. I’m a pretty mechanical person and I like to tinker. I can do basics, like changing my own oil etc.

I want to do some hands on learning, but I don’t have a ton of money to spend or space to work in. I was wondering if you had suggestions on something small and affordable I can get to learn about engines. I was thinking a lawn mower or a scooter but I don’t know how similar those would be to a car.

Do you have any advice?

How do you stayed focused on a task when the task involves some type of waiting?

For example, I have a really hard time staying focused at work. The problem for me is, our software can be really really really slow. While I’m waiting for Outlook to load an email, or our internal tooling to populate data, I find my mind is wandering. Often, I’ll start on another task or pick up my phone and just completely forget about the first thing I started.

At the end of the day, I have to figure out why I have 8 half written emails open in the background of my PC.

How do you stay on track when your tasks require patience?

I’ve seen this show thousands of times. I have most of it memorized to the point where I can recite it from memory, but I still catch new things all the time. That’s one of my favorite things about this show.

What’s something you realized after rewatching the show several times?

About a year ago, I adopted a 2nd dog. For the most part they get along pretty well. They like to play together and for the most part they play well together.

After a few months, they would cuddle up together, but I noticed my first dog started sleeping in a really tight ball. To the point his head is almost facing behind him.

I googled it. It seems that position is defensive. He never slept like that before. I can tell he does it now when he is upset about something.

He doesn’t seem to like to sleep near the 2nd dog. He will go into a room and sleep alone. Of course, the 2nd dog wants to sleep with him so he follows and and curls up next to him. He doesn’t get mad when this happens but I can tell he doesn’t like it.

They still play together pretty well. He even initiates play time with the 2nd dog. He does those big goofy hops when he is trying to get 2nd dog to play with him. It’s cute.

TLDR: how can I help my 1st dog feel more comfortable around my 2nd dog outside of play time?

I'm a Bethesda hoarder and a crazy person, so I made a spreadsheet. I know there's a mod if you're on PC, but I'm on Xbox so I needed some help. Thought you might be interested. I got the data from Starfield Wiki and just added simple functions for the ratios.

I work from home and I’m going to school so I spend a lot of time at my desk. I can’t work if it’s cluttered and these cables are driving me crazy.

I built a custom desk using IKEA countertop and file cabinets that runs the full length of my wall. One half is for computer and one half is for other projects that need space!

I love it except the cables are wild and have a mind of their own. I’ve been researching methods so I was wondering:

How do you manage cables?

PS! All your stations have been awesome so far. I’m jealous!

Do you code on an iPad? Why or why not? If you do, what code editor do you use?

I don’t have a laptop I usually code on my desktop, but I work from home so I get tired of sitting in the same place for so long. I’ve been doing it on my iPad and it seems to be doable!

I tried a few free apps for ipadOS. Some were okay, some were not. I’m willing to pay but I don’t want to spend money randomly on apps I don’t like.

CodeSpaces on GitHub seems to be the best option so far, but it’s a pay as you go structure and not a singular cost.

I liked the UI of Runestone, but many critical features are locked behind a paywall.

Replit seemed decent too but it seems very cloud focused and I already use GitHub.

Koder* seems like it has the most free access features but UI wasn’t intuitive and I couldn’t figure out how to type in a file if I switched pages and came back to my original file.

I hear Textastic is pretty good but side it’s paid with no trial period, I didn’t try it yet. I wanted to get some feedback before I started paying for anything.

Let me know what you use. Share your tips with Lemmy!
