As much as I admire organizations which promote interfaith relations, my problem is when the religious texts of different faiths are literally combative towards other beliefs. No, it’s not just an Islam thing.

It’s really the responsibility of religious academics to start putting ancient texts in a context which is more conducive towards improved interfaith relations and overall societal stability. Otherwise, religions need to get out of politics and policy making, and just stay a personal matter (as they always should have been).

… Wisconsin based Bradley Impact Fund and its parent, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation…

This election in particular has made it clear that the U.S., and other countries, need serious campaign finance reforms.

Countries are being bought by a handful of people, that’s a clear threat to democracies. Higher taxes are just an effective and necessary cure to this crisis.

Tbh, Harris doesn’t have anything without sustained voter turnout till Election Day.

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 45 points 15 hours ago

There is no guarantee of a Harris win, and it may come down to a few thousand votes. People need to get out and vote!! GOP might pull another GW Bush v Gore on us, which would be even worse, so there can’t be anything other than ensuring voter turnout is high. Dems always win with higher voter turnouts, at least that’s what we’ve seen historically.

Yuck no, I pay for the content not the ads. That implicit arrangement is false advertising then

The plot of Evil Dead Rise wouldn’t have happened either if they followed this simple rule

Haha fair, but it’s almost an honor to get a Weird Al parody, I think

Sure it’s a matter of perspective, but only so far because reality will constraint that the number of “items on the ground” are either three or four. One of these people is closer to what’s real.

Advertisers should pay people to watch ads, why do they expect attention for free?

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

It’s sad but every year just keeps living down to my expectations, so you just hold on to what you can 🤷‍♀️

Some reports say 9 dead. I saw somewhere that 72 was the max number of tornadoes within a short time period. Anyone know if these tornadoes are setting a record?
