It's crazy how literally every problem in the US is, at it's root, a zoning problem.

The "intelligentsia" of the Republican Party are dyed-in-the-wool fascist complete monsters like Roger Stone and Steven Miller. They are cunning, dangerous and should not be underestimated.
The only reason they did as much damage as they did, was because actual law enforcement reinforcements were not called in on time.
Let's be clear about this: law enforcement was minimal to begin with, and reinforcements were deliberately refused, because the people in charge of them were trying to help the coup succeed.
This time I had the foresight to take screenshots:
than there is for demonstrably antagonistic behavior. Lemmy is veering too strongly toward curating a list of acceptable opinions and too far away from enforcing civility standards, if you ask me. That's a surefire way to create an ironclad left-leaning echo chamber.
I would argue exactly the opposite.
First of all, fuck "civility" rules, which in my experience (back on Reddit) tend to result in polite bad faith comments (sealioning etc.) being tolerated while comments calling out bad faith for the toxic behavior it is get removed.
Second, facts are not opinions, and it's hardly Lemmy's fault if Colbert was correct about reality's bias.
I'm not buying for a second the notion that it being "county staff doing a ghost trend video" makes it "nothing untoward." That's just the excuse for plausible deniability. Cobb County is one of the most racist in metro Atlanta, and its government even more so. It does not deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Hmm, I wonder if the county in which this occurred (Cobb) has a reputation for being particularly racist, compared to the rest of metro Atlanta?
(Obligatory: If MARTA came to Cobb County)
This is not my picture; I only crossposted it (original was in !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world ). I also only did so because it was apparently being deleted and I wanted it not to be lost (sorry if it's a loose fit for the community because of that).
According to OP, it was an early voting location in Georgia. The thread was deleted 9 hours after being posted, with a score of 125 and 36 comments.
Edit: the deletion my not be as nefarious as I assumed; there's a similar thread in this community that (as I write this) still exists. https://lemmy.world/post/21116630
Third option: force the government to outlaw this bullshit

AFAIK when people talk about modern bikes being less maintainable, what they mean is that there's been sort of a proliferation of more proprietary parts (especially headsets and bottom brackets) in the last decade or so, along with a Gillette-razor-style arms race of increasing numbers of rear sprockets (with correspondingly narrower/more delicate chains). Frankly, it's probably not that big a deal: you just have to get the right kind of tools to deal with the kind of parts you have, and replacements might be a little more expensive than if they were more standardized.
However, if you really want maximum ease of maintenance -- or especially if you're going to be, say, doing bicycle touring in some developing country where it's hard to get fancy parts -- IMO you can't go wrong with a plain old threaded square-taper bottom bracket (don't go so old-school that you end up with ashtabula, though), cup-and-cone threaded headset, 26" wheels, and a rear freewheel or cassette* with 8 sprockets or fewer (so you can use "normal" chains). Basically, all the stuff you'd find on an old '90s mountain bike.
(* I should probably have an opinion about freewheels vs. cassettes to go along with the rest of the opinions, but I don't know enough.)
