Is standing fan not good enough?

I imagined it in a cartoon-ish fashion, so I think I can actually draw it out.

drawing

  • Red ball
  • Male
  • Like Google's default profile picture, without facial features, except he's in gray and has a neck
  • My single hand can surround more than half of it in a cross section view, so about 12cm in diameter
  • Rectangular table, about 5:2, I didn't imagine the material, but it's plain brown, so I guess wood?

Additionally, the ball rolls parallel to the long edge of the table, and falls off the short edge. The person also have legs.

I already had these in my mind before being asked.

Not only that. They also censor illegal use of drugs, and therefore the first episode of Detective Conan gets funny.

Recall the scene where he got fed the drugs. Now imagine that tube of drugs pixelated.

Global hotkey is only used for playing the sounds and nothing else, and that is basically just running a command.

This will play all files that has an audio stream (cls is also using this command):
ffmpeg -i <file> -f s16le - | pacat -d <sink> --channels=<1 for mono, 2 for stereo> --rate=<sample rate> --volume=<0-65535, 65535 = 100%>

I guess it is pretty complicated so maybe I'll add a way to play files.

No. 8 is just one of the signals. There are also no. 9 and no. 10. These signal are used based on the wind speed at HK instead of the storm itself.

For the actual strength of the typhoon, we just call them differently: https://www.hko.gov.hk/en/informtc/class.htm

Although I'd admit the current hurricane is actually stronger than a lot of typhoons: https://www.hko.gov.hk/en/informtc/historical_tc/metinfo_wind.htm

Hongkonger moment

I'm seeing so many posts about the hurricane meanwhile we get hit by multiple typhoons every year.

For our tropical cyclone hazard system, most people don't have to work under typhoon warning signal no. 8, but only if it happens before you get to work.

There used to be a joke about "Lee's Forcefield", where the observatory would often NOT put up no. 8 until after the stock market starts for the day, meaning most people have to work.

Therefore yes, you're going to work.

During my development, I have found 2 different crates that handles global key input. They are inputbot and mki. I looked at some issues in inputbot and learnt that they are using libinput as the backend. I didn't read about mki though.

This soundboard is using mki, and global hotkey is working in Wayland (at least for Plasma).

This is my first ever Rust program.

The motivation of this is to create a soundboard with global hotkey support on Wayland, because Soundux wouldn't add it :<
That's why this soundboard is structurally very similar to Soundux.

Here's a screenshot:

Having a relationship is a bonus for me. Not having one is normal, and I don't mind.

Also that's like a few hundred things that I don't have to worry about.

I recently bought a Corsair HS55 Wireless Headset. They stated it supports Dolby 7.1, IF you use the iCue software, which doesn't work on Linux.

Using pavucontrol, I can change the profile between Analog Stereo Output, Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output and Digital Surround 5.1 (IEC958/AC3) Output, but the Analog one is the only one that works. The other 2 just results in broken audio. There's not even a 7.1 option.

I don't have high hope about this, and I expected it to not work when I bought it, but it would be nice if anyone has some ideas.

I'm satisfied with mine and I use it everywhere. How about you?

Here are 3 examples:
Fried egg, fried rice, fried chicken

All these "fry" are different. If you were to use the "fry" in fried rice to fry an egg, you'd get scrambled egg. Fried chicken is done by submerging it in oil, which you won't do with fried egg or fried rice.

This post is made from the perspective of a Cantonese/Chinese speaker. We have different words for these different types of "fry" (煎, 炒, 炸 respectively)

(Turns out I did post it in the wrong sub and I didn't realize, and now I feel very stupid. Photon UI has once again screwed me over. Got mad for no reason.)

We don't like being average

I'm a Hongkonger and often need to type in Chinese. While I can use input methods like Cangjie or Quick, I much prefer handwriting to keep in mind how to write the characters in a digital age.

So far, I have only seen open source keyboards without handwriting support. Does any of them exist?

I have 2 physical output devices, say "speakers" and "headphones", and I frequently switch between them.

I also have a script that creates 2 virtual sinks for voice call and game by loading module-combine-sink twice on "speakers" and "headphones".

It works, but it's annoying that every time I want to switch device, I also need to mute the other one.

Ideally, I want to use module-remap-sink instead, remapping the 2 virtual sinks to the default one. This is where I'm stuck. What do I put in for master?

For a few months now, Pipewire has been acting in weird ways. Before I upgraded to Plasma 6, after a screen blank (not suspend) no media can be played. For example, YouTube player is in the loading state for a long time, eventually playing without sound, VLC doesn't start for a few minutes.

I have to restart the Pipewire Systemd service to fix it. This restart process takes much longer than usual (<1 seconds). Sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes.

Now with Plasma 6, it also does the same after the initial login. I'm guessing this is because Plasma ignores some KWIN_X11_* env var?

However, if I restart the Pipewire service prior to playing any media after login or screen blank, it takes <1 seconds and everything plays correctly.

This seems to be the problem with the HDMI audio only, as switching to the USB headphones (before screen blanks) prevents this from happening.

How should I start troubleshooting this? What other details should I provide?

I'm working on a presentation about the Fediverse, and would like to end the presentation with a slogan. Any ideas?

Edit: I probably should've specified more stuff. This is an informative presentation, not persuasive, and I don't plan to get into the enshittification. Ideally I don't want to include any corporations.

Edit 2: My title is "The Future is Everywhere"
