We vote in the primaries, not just when an issue is trending!

She sounds adorable, sorry you had to lose her, I hope you're getting through it as best you can. My elderly cutie pie is deteriorating and loudly demands affection sporadically but I know I'd rather have her howling at me at whatever o'clock than not.

Glad mine isn't the only one!

That seems wild but adorable.

I upgraded from a twin to queen but now thr cat feels more comfortable in the bed if it's just us. But I've been trained by twin bed relationships to sleep on one side so it's been an unlearning process. And sometimes when I'm on the side and she's in the middle I have less space than I did with the twin!

Trust a cat to find the least convenient "compromise."

Going as Mr Clean. Seems simple and fun. Although, with Halloween parties being what they are, we'll see how long those pristine whites last.

Just curious. If we're sharing the bed and I roll to not face her, my cat yells and marches over in front of whatever side I'm now facing and if there's not enough room, that's a problem for me to fix.

Just curious if this is standard cat behaviour or another adorably needy quirk of mine?

Oh you sweet summer child of a blog poster. The aliens could make us live like say, how things are going for the Ethiopians, Syrians, Congolese, Lebanese, Palestineans, Yemeni, Russians etc.

Or like people have lived through most of history. Especially as a someone who presents female, that seems especially non ideal.

Blaming individuals for what is a systemic failure could make them less receptive to change.

Ironically, that's almost exactly how I feel about trump/conservative voters.

Were I trying to actually change people's future grammar, I'd totally agree.

But to elaborate on what I said earlier, if someone is going to come flying in from the top rope with some childish/boring "everyone with whom I disagree is a stupid/racist/evil" well, I don't particularly care about the convo anymore, I'll tag them as a waste, let myself correct their grammar, respond however and move on, ignoring their comments when I see them in other threads.

I generally don't correct grammar until I'm already annoyed. But once someone is a silly, well, as the Emperor urged, I give into my anger.

Lemmy has interesting folks like yourself but also a lot of not particularly interesting children.

Wait, making fun of you is being unable to handle criticism but you responding to it is you tolerating criticism?

I'm now a little curious what your rules are.

Global literacy, probably. But I think functional reading/literacy has been falling behind in most Western democracies, especially America.

Possibly! Though really I think it more comes from my general dismay at the dumbing down of culture in general. Every day feels closer to idiocracy and missing you/you're seems like a symptom.

But maybe I'll try thinking of the internet as a sea of dyslexics, just in case...

Title pretty much says it all. When I watched the Sadness I learned, much to my surprise, that I sort of have limits where the gore becomes a bit too much.

That being said, that movie was on another level of impressively realistic horribleness happening for about two straight hours. Terrifier seems more Western and classic blood and stuff but wondered if anyone had seen both and had thoughts?

Anyone else stoked for a 3 million dollar Myers?

A helpful reminder for some!

Last season was such a pleasant surprise...

Almost everyone agrees there should be more compromises in politics. So I'm curious, how would that play out?

While I love the policy debates and the nuances, most people go for the big issues. So, according to the party platforms/my gut, here's what I'd put as the 3 for each party:

Democrats: Abortion rights, gun control, climate change.

Republicans: Immigration, culture war (say, critical race theory in schools or gender affirming care for minors) , trump gets to be president. (Sorry but it really seems like a cult of personality at this point.)

Anyway, here's the exercise: say the other side was willing to give up on all three of their issues but you had to give up on one of your side's. OR, you can have two of your side's but have to give up on the third.

Just curious to see how this plays out. (You are of course free to name other priorities you think better represent the parties but obviously if you write "making Joe Pesci day a national holiday" as a priority and give it up, that doesn't really count.)

Edit: The consensus seems to be a big no to compromise. Which, fair, I imagine those on the Right feel just as strongly about what they would call baby murdering and replacing American workers etc.

Just kind of sad to see it in action.

But thanks/congrats to those who did try and work through a compromise!

Having large numbers of people starve to death seems like a pretty damning indictment of a system. But I dunno, maybe I'm overly attached to food?

Listened to Billie Jean while cleaning, wondered what the all time playlist might be.

I imagine Kanye, Clapton, Pink Floyd, James Brown, Ike Turner all make the cut with MJ but I'm curious what Lemmy comes up with!

Kind of amazing. In my head this is basically saying "we can't protect people in parts of downtown Vancouver and rather than change that, it may just be easier to abandon the area.
