Totally. I have one of the newer pixels and it's on the smaller side relatively, but it's the biggest phone I can use comfortably.

I wear a size medium glove and it's insane to me that it's hard to find a phone I can use comfortably in one hand.

At the same time, I've started to realize that I should do less with my phone anyway. So I really don't need it to do to much besides get a good reception and have a day or so of battery life. The most demanding thing I've asked my phone to do recently was to emulate some Nintendo games and run llama3.2:1B. But both things are better done either on a device meant to perform that workload or via a self hosted server where my phone is just a client.

I'm with you on those specs. Maybe the best features of new phones is the water resistance. Idk of its possible to have both water resistance and removable batteries and SD cards, but I miss being able to swap out to a fully charged battery or upgrade the storage at a whim. If I hadn't choose tho, id stick with the water resistance.

So to add to your specs I'd like:

  • water resistance
  • 256 SD card minimum
  • battery last 24hr minimum
  • ability to switch from WiFi to cell mid call
  • don't need more than a 1080p oled display on a phone
  • comes without any bloatware preinstalled
  • runs linux with ability to sudo

I like the fan theory that jurassic park could have worked if they followed modern guidelines for zoos in terms of meeting the minimum enclosure sizes per animal and making sure that the animals were properly stimulated. But John Hammond just cut every corner he could.

Thank you for both the correction and source. I will be using this in the future.

What if the torturer put you in a dark room with a bunch of steel IKEA furniture and bedfames, (no mattresses) and a heated floor with 2 zones (only 1 is on at a time) so that you would have to either brave the gauntlet of IKEA to keep your feet warm or tell them what they want to hear?

Awesome. Will try this out ~~since the android version of the official client doesn't seem to work for me.~~

~~I think it might have something to do with my private DNS settings, since it will only connect to my server via fqdn if don't use encrypted DNS.~~

Edit: the official jellyfin client is working with my encrypted DNS just fine now. Will still be testing this out.

Its honesty insane how much either not having a smartphone or not wanting to install an app to your smartphone makes you a somewhat of a marginalized class.

You might not be able to park, eat at a restaurant, view a receipt, or go to an event.

Agree, working at a McDonald's today is not about the "work". It's about the pay and the ability to live the lifestyle that job would afford. Which is not something either candidate would ever experience, after todays wages, cost of living, and inflation is factored in.

However, Harris probably has an idea of what that life would be like and has the ability to empathise. Where as Trump will just use the photo op as a way to get free McDonald's

I think one of the two most beneficial things that could be done for America would be to enact a proper living wage that is in line with inflation. Not only would that help the minimum wage workers but it would also increase tax revenue.

However the best way to increase the tax revenue would be to tax the rich. Either way, Trump would definitely not do either.

What are your backup plans for an internet and telecom shutdown?

I don't believe trusting in satilite internet companies (especially one owned by a fascist) are very practical.

Outside of radio and ad-hoc networks however, I'm not sure what other options would be feasible for the average person that wanted to prepare for something like this.

I love Jellyfin. I did think these recommendations were a bit funny however since they were so off.

Maybe the recommendations need to also look at the movies mpaa rating? Like something PG shouldn't be recommended after watching an R and especially not vice versa.

I guess it becomes complex quickly if you want to add other rating systems to the mix.

I was shopping for a new scythe blade when I found this beautiful and incredibly long competition scythe blades.

In the video, they seem to be judged not just on time but also on how well the area is mowed. I find this fascinating.

(Business people) speaking a language familiar and dear to them. Its portentous nouns and verbs invest ordinary events with high adventure; executives walk among toner cartridges, caparisoned like knights. We should tolerate them - every person of spirit wants to ride a white horse. -William Strunk Jr. (The Elements of Style)
