Mao, 1956:

Now U.S. imperialism is quite powerful, but in reality it isn't. It is very weak politically because it is divorced from the masses of the people and is disliked by everybody and by the American people too. In appearance it is very powerful but in reality it is nothing to be afraid of, it is a paper tiger. Outwardly a tiger, it is made of paper, unable to withstand the wind and the rain. I believe the United States is nothing but a paper tiger.

When we say U.S. imperialism is a paper tiger, we are speaking in terms of strategy. Regarding it as a whole, we must despise it. But regarding each part, we must take it seriously. It has claws and fangs. We have to destroy it piecemeal. For instance, if it has ten fangs, knock off one the first time, and there will be nine left, knock off another, and there will be eight left. When all the fangs are gone, it will still have claws. If we deal with it step by step and in earnest, we will certainly succeed in the end.

Strategically, we must utterly despise U.S. imperialism. Tactically, we must take it seriously. In struggling against it, we must take each battle, each encounter, seriously. At present, the United States is powerful, but when looked at in a broader perspective, as a whole and from a long-term viewpoint, it has no popular support, its policies are disliked by the people, because it oppresses and exploits them. For this reason, the tiger is doomed. Therefore, it is nothing to be afraid of and can be despised. But today the United States still has strength, turning out more than 100 million tons of steel a year and hitting out everywhere. That is why we must continue to wage struggles against it, fight it with all our might and wrest one position after another from it. And that takes time.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

“‘I gotta say, boss, that was some real gangster shit back there.’ I did feel pretty good. On the biggest of stages, on an issue that mattered and with the clock ticking, I’d pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Granted, the press gave the interim agreement mixed reviews, but given the chaos of the conference and the obstinacy of the Chinese, I still saw it as a win.”

80 years ago yesterday the Soviet Union liberated Belgrad, Serbia, from nazi occupation.

Images from Russian language telegram channel

80 years ago, on October 20, 1944, Soviet troops, together with units of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, liberated the capital of Yugoslavia, Belgrade, from the fascist invaders

The Soviet-led forces engaged in the Belgrade offensive included 660,000 soldiers, 4,477 artillery pieces and mortars, 421 tanks and self-propelled guns and 1,250 warplanes.

The Chairman of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito emphasised that without the USSR "victory over the fascist invaders would have been impossible, the liberation of Yugoslavia would have been impossible, the creation of a new Yugoslavia would have been impossible."

Advance units of the Soviet battlegroup, along with a detachment of Yugoslav guerrillas, reached the outskirts of Belgrade by October 14, 1944.

Seeking to minimise the damage to the city, the Soviet forces refrained from carrying out large-scale aerial bombardments and airstrikes.

Instead, assault teams stormed the German Nazis’ positions using machine guns and grenades, with artillery units firing directly at the designated targets.

The city residents assisted the liberation effort however they could, providing the Soviet and Yugoslav forces with coordinates of Nazi strongpoints.

Israel is considering establishing a base in the unrecognized Somaliland. - Jerusalem Post

Article

Israel eyes Somaliland base bid to counter threats from Yemen's Houthis, bolster security - report. Somaliland is positioned in the Gulf of Aden and near the entrance to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, through which nearly a third of the world's maritime cargo passes.

Israel is interested in establishing a military base in northern Somalia in order to keep tabs on Yemen and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, Middle East Monitor, the Qatari state-funded news site reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, in exchange, Israel would establish relations with Somaliland, which controls northern Somalia but is not currently recognized by Israel.

Middle East Monitor noted that Somaliland is geographically strategic. It is a former British colony that borders Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti. Somaliland was considered an autonomous region of Somalia that declared independence in 1991.

Somaliland is positioned in the Gulf of Aden and near the entrance to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, through which nearly a third of the world's maritime cargo passes.

Somaliland has 740 kilometres of coastline along the Gulf of Aden and could play a key role in safeguarding the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea from piracy, terrorism, and smuggling, Middle East Monitor wrote.

Various international shipping companies have grown hesitant to charter merchant vessels through the Bab al-Mandab Strait due to attacks by Yemen's Houthis, disrupting global trade and triggering multinational naval action.

Traders are scrambling to find alternative shipping routes to get consumer goods to retailers, with journeys around Africa adding roughly 10 days to voyage times.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced in late 2023 the establishment of Operation Prosperity Guardian, a new multinational security initiative involving key countries such as the UK, France, the US, and Italy.

Securing Israel from afar

According to the report, Israel seeks to enhance its national security from afar and challenge the Houthis presence in Yemen, along with other potential economic opportunities that could be spurred from diplomatic relations.

Potential economic opportunities include growing investments in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure. Israel's historic success in agriculture and knowledge of this field, such as its kibbutz model, could be used to leverage and secure a military base in Somaliland, Middle East Monitor stated.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ties with both Israel and Somaliland and has maintained a base in Somaliland since 2017. The UAE was one of the first countries in the region to recognize the Republic of Somaliland and has invested in the area, Middle East Monitor wrote.

The UAE is mediating on behalf of Israel to establish a military base in Somaliland, Middle East Monitor reported, citing diplomatic sources that could not be verified.

I think Israel used to support Eritrea to attack Yemen, but it seems Eritreia broke their relations with Israel recently.

[–] 2812481591@hexbear.net 42 points 1 day ago

Djibouti normally sells bases to any country who wants one, but they've kept a firm line that they will not recognize Israel until the creation of a Palestinian state. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djibouti%E2%80%93Palestine_relations

I guess that's why Somaliland looks like a more promising partner, though they've also been lukewarm historically.

Some news from Gaza, Kursk, and Odessa.

Palestinian resistance forces released more recent combat footage from Gaza, showing RPG, mortar and IED strikes: https://southfront.press/israeli-army-loses-two-more-soldiers-to-palestinian-tank-hunters-in-gaza/

Russian forces inflicted serious losses on Kiev regime invaders in Kursk oblast over the past 24 hours: https://sputnikglobe.com/20241020/ukraine-loses-over-310-soldiers-in-kursk-region-in-24-hours---russian-defense-ministry-1120607795.html

Someone (possibly an anti-fascist partisan) shot to death Gennady Beybutyan near Odessa, a local oligarch involved in the Kiev regime’s military conscription. With these kinds of votes there's no such thing as voting "no", there's only "not getting the result right the first time". If the west wants to expand into Moldova they will just keep having referenda until voters choose the right thing, or they will simply bypass democratic niceties and have some comprador sign the papers with asking the people.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 23 hours ago

They didn't need any referendum when they fast tracked Finland and Sweden into NATO and they won't need them in this case either if they can manage to keep their puppets in power and their grip on the country's institutions through their network of NGOs.

[–] kittin@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

The referendum comes amid allegations of Russia-backed voter fraud [DW]

Their undermining of democracy by voting wrong

My defense of democracy by attacking the validity of the process.

Holy shit,thank Christ

I'm the dummy who NAFOposted about Moldova, and I got my ass rightfully schooled, but thank Christ! Our brothers have broken free from the West!(This time)

I was dooming about this, but it looks like we won't be dragged into an inevitable Moldovan conflict and that the West's influence here really is waning! My god, what a crack in the facade!

@rainn@hexbear.net

@cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml

Rejoice! You were right and I was wrong!

Maybe I'm huffing copium again, but this looks like a ray of hope for our future too.Their influence is waning! Obviously here it's still deeply entrenched, but maybe there's hope?

Edit: nevermind,it's looking really tight and there's still 3% more of the vote to be counted, looks like it's gonna be down to the wire

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 50 points 1 day ago

Moldova says 'no' in vote on joining EU: partial results

the West will ignore this, just like how the ignored the referendums that voted against privatiziation in Eastern Europe during the 1990's

Brazilian President Lula da Silva falls in the bathroom of the presidential palace and is taken to the Syrian Lebanese Hospital. The President of the Republic hit his head and, on medical advice, canceled his trip to Russia for the BRICS summit.

Lula's doctor says the president had head trauma, “but everything is fine”. In an interview with CNN, Dr. Roberto Kalil said that CT and MRI scans had been carried out, which showed a small amount of bleeding in the front of Lula's head. He will be under observation for the next few days.

Lula was treated at the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital with a cut on the back of his head; doctors recommend avoiding long trips, but he can keep to his normal schedule. Foreign Minister to lead Brazilian delegation to Russia during BRICS summit Mauro Vieira, who was already going to be part of the delegation, was appointed to head it after Lula canceled his trip to Kazan.

I have seen some people saying this was probably an excuse, so Lula wouldn't have to meet with Putin and anger too much the US. But anyway, I am glad Lula is doing alright.

During a press conference, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O, estimated that between Monday and Tuesday, the electric system will be re-established. Over 160,000 users in Havana have access to power, according to the Minister of Energy.

Seems like most of the island power plants are online, but only the more central ones are producing energy, the eastern and western plants are only starting up. We will see, but most hospitals, hotels/resorts and goverment buildings use generators. If Joe Biden (and democrats in general) actually cared about the people in Cuba, they would have given aid to Cuba and continue the Cuban Thraw Policies that Obama started (Obama was so well received in Cuba that he literally appeared in Cuban TV and some TV Shows as a special guest).

But no, Biden will continue to pressure Cuba and Venezuela, and continue to give support to Gusanos, people that not only doesn't vote democrat, but are openly strong supporters of Republicans. Meanwhile, they throw Haitians, Mexicans, Central Americans and South Americans in prison camps to appeal for people that will never vote for them.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

I really hope they will be let into BRICS and be allowed to trade unhindered with those countries. But this is hellworld so I want to see it before I believe it.

Up to 450,000 people in Lithuania are short of food, says Simonas Gurevičius, the head of the Food Bank (Maisto Bankas) NGO.

This represents around 15 percent of the population.

“The Food Bank is helping 232,000 people,” the head of the NGO said, adding that even more people are in need of food assistance.

At the same time, 400,000 tonnes of food are wasted in Lithuania each year, he noted.

Food insecurity rises in autumn when heating bills and other expenses increase financial pressure on low-income households, Gurevičius said.

The Baltics don't need food, they are so civilized and advanced they have learned to subsist solely off of NATO bases, pro-fascist historical revisionism, and hatred of Russia.

German media is currently plastering the image of a Palestinian burning in his hospital bed everywhere - not because they’re outraged over Israel’s crime against humanity, but because they’re demanding a politician who shared said image critically to resign over “antisemitism“

Germans just can't help themselves being nazis

re: twitch banning israel

~~Twitch must have a (corporate) good reason for the ban. They almost certainly didn't do it out of a moral responsibility. (prove me wrong twitch, i dare you)~~

~~I think it's likely because they've recognized a significant algorithm abuse (bot/shill) campaign, which could constitute as fraud or laundering due to the monetized nature of the platform. Spotify has had a lot of issues over the years which you can read about. If there was a campaign and a large part of it was coming from a specific subset of IPs, it would be a crude but potentially effective strategy to just pull the plug on them.~~

~~It sounds like existing users are still allowed, though, which pretty clearly indicates that they wanted to recognize a legitimate pre-existing israeli userbase (and which will likely prevent major retention loss after a few months of protests).~~

~~If that's the case it's kind of funny blowback. But I worry about what it means if a bot/shill campaign reached twitch's threshold for concern right now. Psyops tend to shortly precede physical ops, and if I'm not mistaken the whole world is waiting for Israel's next move.~~

~~edit: some people are saying this policy has been around for several months now so take that into consideration with my last paragraph~~

I take it back! I take it all back.

u/sewer_rat_420 reports that the policy has been active since 10/7/23. Like many others, I saw the big reaction and believed the comments saying it was new. Because that would make sense, right? Too much sense apparently. This is a clown world after all.

I'm filing this one under "lessons learned." Sorry for propagating misinfo.

And since I totally, definitely learned my lesson, here is a source for it being an old policy and more details about it: https://xcancel.com/TwitchSupport/status/1848191418377830708
